During the 2020 lockdown, Our team was inspired by Headspace’s “Sleepcasts.” These bed-time podcasts relaxed and transported the listener, so we did the same for travel.

Using firsthand accounts from actual excursions on our tours, we created an experience that gave stressed, homebound travelers an immersive, relaxing experience to “escape” to faraway places.

The final product also incorporated educational content and showcasing actual experiences from our tours:

Highlights

Led by a local guide
Spotting a sloth through a telescope
Eating fresh, Costa Rican Pineapple

We held interviews, wrote scripts, used rapid prototyping and testing before putting out our first Audio Escape.

At one point, we experimented by reading itineraries out loud and creating background ambience using only sounds made by mouth and layering them.

Layered Sounds

Strange Birds
Monkeys Chittering
Buzzing Bugs

And recording all this while in lockdown in a small city apartment, this was my home studio:

A down comforter propped up by a tripod and a lounge chair on a bed in a small apartment bedroom.
Inside the studio, where you can see the tripod, headphones, and pillows around the perimeter to dampen street noise.
